Why should I choose an Apprenticeship?

Choosing to do an Apprenticeship means that you open yourself to excellent progression opportunities, whether looking ahead to further study options or climb the ranks within the workplace. There’s also different type of Apprenticeships, which mean you can move to all the way to graduate level with higher level and Degree Apprenticeships.

All Apprenticeships include 1 day releaseIn any Apprenticeship, 20% off the job training must take place either in or out of the working environment but it must be undertaken outside of day-to-day work duties. This can include 1 or more days of learning at Vogal.
Apprenticeships are only for 16 year oldsApprenticeships are available to all ages and can be used to upskill your existing staff. An employer contribution may apply depending on the size of your business (we can advise)
Apprentices have to be aged 16-18This is not true – an apprentice can be any age and can be already employed. You can also undertake an apprenticeship if you already have a degree.
I won’t get paid holidays like other employeesAll Apprentice receive a minimum of 28 days annual leave (including the 8 bank / public holidays)
Apprenticeship isn’t more than work experienceAn Apprenticeship is a real job with a contract of employment and benefits from day one, where Apprentices are an integral part of the workforce.

Apprentices don’t get paid very wellAll Apprentices receive a salary which meets the minimum Apprenticeship rate of hourly pay for their age. Most Vogal Apprentices receive favourable salaries and benefits*

Are Apprenticeships for people who don’t do well at schoolAn Apprenticeship is the perfect way to enter the world of work and continue to gain qualifications in addition to valuable workplace skills and knowledge. Apprenticeships are a viable alternative to University.

*The average salary for a Vogal Apprentice is £10k – £17k (about £5.13ph – £8.71ph), which is above the minimum wage for a 16-18 year old in employment without formal training.

Many Apprentices enjoy additional benefits such as bonus, up to 5 weeks holiday per year plus bank holidays and access the exclusive Apprentice Extra card which gives discount in the majority of high street and online retailers and restaurants.

With most of your training delivered in the workplace, you’ll get lots of invaluable on-the-job experience and understand the day to day working and challenges of your chosen industry. You’ll be able to develop and apply new skills instantly in the workplace and learn directly from the people around you.
