This course provides an introduction to maintenance for beginners or as a refresher course to develop maintenance skills for the purposes of work or hobby.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand Health & Safety and be able to apply safe working practices including lock off procedures
- Develop an appreciation of good housekeeping techniques & standards
- Develop an understanding of fault diagnosis & maintaining pneumatic systems
- Understand lubrication
- Develop knowledge and skills relating to seals, gaskets and leaks
- Understand and be able to perform functionality checks
- Performance to specific conveyors
- Understand and be able to maintain belts, chains & bearings
- Understand and be able to carry out fault diagnosis and maintenance on pneumatic systems
- Understand and be able to build a pneumatic circuit
Progression:
Following the completion of this course, it is possible to progress onto and undertake a formal qualification in engineering or further complementary training courses.

Assessment:
This 5-day Mechanical Maintenance Awareness programme will enable candidates to achieve Unit QPEO1/010 – Carrying out routine servicing of Mechanical Equipment from the NVQ Level 1 Performing Engineering Operations qualification. Candidates will need to undertake preventative maintenance activities in the workplace to gain evidence for the unit qualification. This will be certificated by EAL.
