18th Edition Training Course
City & Guilds 2382-18 – Level 3 Award in Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671. (18th Edition Wiring Regulations)
In July 2018 the previous 17th Edition qualification was replaced with the new IET Wiring Regulations Eighteenth Edition, with every installation from January 2019 now needing to be designed to comply with the new Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018.
The IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the definitive standards for the electrical industry which everyone must follow when carrying out any domestic or commercial electrical installation work. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems.
The 18th Edition course is an essential electrical qualification, suitable for both newcomers to the industry, associate trades and those looking to update their existing qualification. It is also a requirement for anyone interested in joining a competent person part p scheme provider – like NICEIC – and to certify that their installations meet current regulation guidelines. This course leads to a qualification officially known as the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018.
There are 8 units to study, 7 related to the parts and 1 to the appendices of the BS7671 IET regulations.

In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT Testing)
City & Guilds 2377-22 – Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT)
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. Portable Appliance Testing is one way in which to ensure electrical equipment is safe.
As stated in the IEE Code of Practice – in order to comply with these regulations, the tester must have an understanding of the modes of electrical, mechanical or thermal damage to electrical equipment and appliances as well as their flexes which may be encountered in a work environment.
Training for testers must include the identification of equipment and appliance types to determine the test procedures, and the frequency of inspection. Persons testing must be familiar with the test instruments used and in particular their limitations and restrictions, so as to achieve repeatable results without damaging the equipment or the appliance.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the statutory and non-statutory requirements relevant to Portable Appliance Testing
- Understand the electrical units of measurement associated with Portable Appliance Testing
- Understand how equipment construction and classification reduces the risk of electric shock
- The procedures for the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
